Beth Shadur has worked since 1975 as an Artist in Residency in various settings, such as schools, community
centers, a prison, nature conservancies, and colleges. She leads participatory mural projects, in which her
participants collaborate in every aspect of the mural creation, from choice of theme, to research, drawing,
design and painting of the mural. Shadur has directed over 100 such murals for various sites, created with
community input. She also does workshops for participants, students, teachers in other areas of drawing and
painting. Her Artist in Residency work has taken her throughout the United States and Great Britain.
Recently, Shadur did a residency with fifth grade students at the Lincoln Academy of Integrated Arts in
Davenport, IA and directed a mural on the subject of immigration. The students learned, through the mural
process, about the history of immigration in the Quad Cities area. To see more on this project, click here.
